Blake and Emerson Action win regional championships

-- Action Law Race TeamNovember 21, 2012

As this year's go kart race season comes to an end, brother and sister Blake Action, 11, and Emerson Action, 9, of Ahwahnee, both won first place at the International Kart Federation Regional Championships on Oct. 28 at the Fresno Fairgrounds.

Racers from as far north as Medford, Or. to Bakersfield competed in the regional championships. The Action team has come a long way this year improving their driving skills in their first year of competitive karting.

Blake took first in his division 2 Cycle (ages 8-12) and Emerson won her title in the Rookie Comer (ages 7-10). The siblings made a clean sweep on race day, as they were both first in every session of the day. The day consisted of qualifying races, two heat races and a main event race.

Blake won the Screaming Eagle Award for fastest qualifying, then went on to win two heats and the championship race.

In his second heat, he overcame getting hit by another racer from behind on a turn, finishing the heat in first.

With pole position in the 20-lap main event, Blake took the lead around the first turn, with the second and third place karts in hot pursuit, waiting for the slightest error in driving to find a way to pass. After about 17 laps, Blake pulled about five kart lengths ahead. Once they were not close enough to follow Blake's driving lines, they fell even further back.

After Sunday's first place win, Emerson was awarded Champion of the 2012 IKF Region 11 Championship Sprint Series in the Rookie Comer division. She also received a sportsmanship award.

Emerson easily led her races with a substantial lead. Her best lap times were better than the best lap times of all the drivers in the class of older drivers, except for her brother's times. Her accomplishments include her championship win in the 2012 Central Valley Championships in Rookie Comer last August.

Blake was be awarded second place in the IKF Region 11 Championship Sprint Series. His accomplishments this year include: Four race championships; the 2011 Northern Nevada Kart Club Champion; 2012 Central Valley Champion; Current Kinsmen Kart Club points leader and 2011 Atwater Kart Club Champion.
