Eastern Madera County residents awoke to the first snowfall of the season last Friday with Oakhurst getting a little dusting and Fish Camp (5,200 feet) getting about three inches. A second wave of winter weather came through the area early Saturday morning and left about an inch of snow in Oakhurst and an additional five inches in Fish Camp.
Badger Pass Ski Area in Yosemite National Park at 8,000 feet elevation, received 12 to 16 inches of snow over the two days and Yosemite Valley received four inches. Badgers Pass is scheduled to open Dec. 14. Adult Early Bird Season Passes are available online for $169 or at Badger Pass between Dec. 14 and 24 for $149. Last year the downhill skiing did not begin until late December due to the lack of snow.
Additional rain and low temperatures are expected over the weekend through the first part of next week.
