Barbara Pike Dickey

Barbara Pike Dickey died Oct. 24, 2012, at the age of 88.

Mrs. Dickey was a resident of Coarsegold for eight years.

She was born Aug. 15, 1924 in Los Angeles to June Braun and John H. Pike.

Mrs. Dickey graduated from Stanford University in 1946.

She taught elementary school for more than 20 years, first at the John Thomas Dye School in Los Angeles, and later at Walnut School in Newbury Park. She also co-managed a school transportation company and a summer camp (Junior Sportsman Day Camp) for more than 10 years with her husband, Walter P. Dickey Jr.

Mrs. Dickey enjoyed spending time with her family, horseback riding, sailing, reading, current events, politics and history.

She was preceded in death by first husband, Charles R. Kanne, and second husband, Walter P. Dickey, Jr.

Mrs. Dickey is survived by children Charles Kanne and wife Dana, David Kanne and wife Louise, Barbara Kanne Carnahan and husband Don, Donna Dickey Obringer and husband Gary, and Walter Dickey III and wife Kim; brother Frederick Braun Pike and wife Helene; 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 5 at Forest Lawn in Glendale.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Diabetic Association.
