DUI charges forthcoming after two car crash
DUI charges are forthcoming after a two car crash on Highway 41 last week that held up traffic for a couple hours.
According to the California High Patrol report, on Tuesday, Oct. 30 around 3:09 p.m., Esmeralda Hernandez, 29, of Clovis, was driving a 2006 Honda CRX northbound on Highway 41 approaching Mecca Lane at an undetermined speed. A one-year-old passenger was in the vehicle with her. Angelo Hernandez, 21, was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 pick up truck pulling a small utility trailer southbound on Highway 41 south of Mecca Lane at an undetermined speed. Roman Hernandez, 18, was a passenger in the vehicle with his brother. Both men work for a pool company and are from Clovis. Esmeralda's Honda drifted across the center line into the opposing traffic lane and collided into the truck.
Esmeralda had to be removed from the car with the Jaws of Life. She, along with her child, were air lifted to Community Regional Medical Center. Esmeralda suffered serious injuries to her head, neck and back. The one-year-old was in an infant child passenger safety restraint and escaped serious injury.
Angelo and Roman were transported by ground ambulance with moderate injuries to Clovis Community Hospital.
Esmeralda was determined to be under the influence at the time and to be the cause of the collision. Esmeralda was arrested and felony charges are forthcoming for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol and child endangerment.
The traffic collision remains under investigation.
Fatality from single car accident in Raymond
On Monday, Nov. 5 around 4:31 p.m., a 17-year-old from Mariposa was driving a 1995 Honda Accord northbound on Road 800 south of Road 820 at 35-40 miles per hour. His uncle, Ronald Gene McAnally, 55, of Modesto, was a passenger in the front seat. According to the CHP report, McAnally suddenly grabbed the lever for the emergency brake. The driver lost control of the Honda and it left the roadway to the east and overturned into a tree.
As a result of the collision, McAnally sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 14-year-old passenger from Mariposa that was in the rear of the car was not injured. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Madera Community Hospital for treatment.
The 17-year-old driver was arrested for felony driving while under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs resulting in injury or death with a blood alcohol level of .08% or greater with injuries and vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence. After medical clearance from the hospital, the driver was transported and booked into the Madera County Juvenile Detention Center. This collision remains under investigation.
