The Oakhurst Community Concert Band will perform their free Fall Concert at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 18, at Mountain Christian Center, 40299 Highway 49.
Using enhanced video choreography for "music you can see," the concert will feature Gustav Holst's "Jupiter" from "The Planets," R. Vaughan Williams' "Folk Song Suite," and Frank Ticheli's famous "Amazing Grace." The afternoon will also include an incredible jazz arrangement of "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen."
The Oakhurst Community Band continues the tradition of community concert bands, and provides Mountain Area high school and middle school students the opportunity to play and learn from the seasoned adult musicians in the band. Band members also assist Yosemite High school music programs by filling in at football games, musicals, fundraisers and graduation ceremonies. Band members often provide free music lessons and workshops for area students as well.
The band rehearses on Monday evenings 6:30-8:30 p.m. during the concert season in the Yosemite High School Band Room.
The Oakhurst Community Concert Band is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public benefit corporation and relies on business and individual financial support. The Band hopes the public will consider a tax deductible donation, so that the band can continue to bring concert music to the community and assist local area music students. Checks may be mailed to Oakhurst Community Band, P.O. Box 2389, Oakhurst, CA 93644.
