It is truly sad to see the Met Cinema closing its doors. For years it has been Oakhurst and the surrounding areas main entertainment venue.
What I find even sadder is the lack of respect that has been shown to the owners and staff of the Met. These people need our support as they close, not our ongoing complaints.
Here are just a few of the issues (and there are many more) that forced the closure:
Constant complaints about the admission prices which had to be raised to offset the improvements that were needed for the theatre.
Complaints about the concession prices. This is where theatre owners make their money, not in playing movies. The owners have shared that they find trash from outside food (pizza boxes, store candy wrappers, microwave popcorn sacks and more) after every movie. They could not compete with this sneakiness.
Dishonest movie watchers that have not purchased annual passes but find ways to see more than one movie without paying.
Worst of all is the disrespect that has been given to the owners and staff. People have made rude comments to everyone concerned. Where is your understanding? Were the rude and malicious comments helpful?
So, to those movie fans that must travel to Fresno, spending your money on gas, higher admission prices, $8 popcorn, threats of being arrested for sneaking into extra shows and perhaps being kicked-out for bringing in food from outside -- That is what you are now facing.
To the owners and the staff at the Met, thank you for all that you have done and put up with. We continue to appreciate each and every one of you and we will truly miss you.
