Nina T. Strickland died Oct. 26, 2012, at the age of 94.

Mrs. Strickland was a resident of Oakhurst for 32 years, formerly of Fresno.

She was born Sept. 5, 1918, in Birmingham, Ala.

Mrs. Strickland was graduated from Howard College and earned her teaching credentials in 1938.

She was a high school teacher for 18 years, retiring in 1976.

Mrs. Strickland founded the Manzanita and Mountain Laurel Clubs, Service Organization of the Sierra, and The First Tuesday Lovers Book Club.

She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, many crafts, gardening, and traveling the world.

Mrs. Strickland was preceded in death by parents Alice and James Thornton; daughter Alice Marie; grandson Zeke Houx; and husband Ed.

She is survived by sons Bob of Fresno and Steve of Meridan, Idaho; daughter Jane Houx of Fall River Mills; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A private memorial service was held.
