SPCA Animal Faire

-- Carmen George / Sierra StarOctober 11, 2012

More than 150 people attended the 14th Annual Animal Faire and Tails on the Trail event Sunday at the Oakhurst Community Park. The event, a fundraiser for the Eastern Madera County SPCA, included many contests and activities sponsored by area businesses and residents. Funds raised will help build a no-kill animal shelter in Ahwahnee, which received a $1 lease a year Tuesday from the Madera County Board of Supervisors to help make it possible. Once the $1.5 million project is completed, yearly operating costs are slated at $125,000, making continual fundraising and local support vital, said Sharon Fitzgerald, EMC SPCA president. A conditional use permit is expected in November, Fitzgerald said.
