Yosemite's Alek Simpson won the North Sequoia League mid-season cross country championship meet held at Woodward Park on Oct. 2. He finished the 5K course in 17:56.
The second runner to cross the finish line was Yosemite's Chris Grant and Badgers Issac Soliz and Liam Womak finished fourth and fifth.
Yosemite won the meet with Kerman coming in second.
The girls varsity team, lead by Phoenix Skeahan, placed third.
Prior to the league mid-season meet, the team came home with two first place trophies from the Sept. 28 Golden West Invitational Cross Country Meet in Sanger.
Both the boys varsity and JV teams placed first out of seven teams in the small school division.
Simpson placed third in the 5K race at Sanger with a time of 16.25.
In the JV race, Carson Burton took third place.
On Sept. 29, the team participated in the Madera Invitational Meet at Eastman Lake, with Simpson placing first in 14.18. Grant placed fifth and Soliz finished eighth.
The boys JV team is undefeated on the season.
About 40 runners from the boys and girls team have qualified for the Mt. San Antionio College (Mt. SAC) cross country meet in southern California on Oct. 19 and 20. The event is the largest high school cross country meet in the world with more than 20,000 entries.
The season ending NSL meet is Nov.23 at Woodward Park, followed by the Central Section Championship Meet.
