Oakhurst Animal Faire & Tails on Trail

Eastern Madera County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is holding its 14th Annual Animal Faire -- Tails on the Trail 1-Mile Dog Walk -- from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Oakhurst Community Park.

Sign-up starts at 10:30 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m. Events include a noon newspaper fetch and "best wag" contest, 12:40 p.m. "Best Kiss" contest and a blessing of the animals by Father Gordon Kamai of Christ Church, 1:05 p.m. All-American Dog Show and "Best Costume" contest, 1:50 p.m. "Best Trick" contest and "The Yolk's on You" event, and a 2:30 p.m. raffle drawing.

If you don't have a dog to walk, you can also sponsor "Mimi," the 2011 Tails on the Trails mascot for the non-profit. Along with games, food will be available, pet owners can microchip their animals at the event, and pet photos will be available.

The day includes many raffle prizes and is sponsored by the Sierra Star, Whiskers and Paws and Graydon Kennels. All proceeds go to benefit the Eastern Madera County SPCA.
