Cage fights coming to Chukchansi Sept. 22

Published: September 20, 2012

Some of the top cage fighters in Central California will be facing off at Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino on Sep. 22.

The main event in the mixed martial arts event will pit 6-foot-5, 255 pound Fresno heavyweight Brandon Cash (5-3) against 6-foot-1, 250 pound undefeated Javy Ayala (4-0) from Porterville.

Cash, a Strikeforce veteran once considered to be a top heavyweight prospect in the MMA community, will be looking to end his current losing streak in this fight. Ayala has pulled off upsets in his last two bouts to improve to 4-0.

The co-main event will feature two of the top prospects from Visalia's Elite Team as Steve Urias (3-1) will take on Fresno's Paul Ruiz (3-1). In addition, Cain Carrizosa (3-0) will put his undefeated record on the line against American Kickboxing Academy Lightweight Reese Brown (1-1). Brown comes from one of the most heralded MMA gyms in the world and will present Carrizosa with his biggest test to date.

Art Becerra will take on undefeated AKA prospect Gabe Carrasco in a bantamweight showdown. This matchup may become the "fight of the night" as both fighters go fast and hard for the entire match.

Rounding out the card will be the professional debut for two local fighters as Fresno's Tim Eastom takes on former Clovis High wrestler Jason Williams. Eastom is one of the top ranked amateurs in California and is looking to make a splash on the professional scene.

The event will also feature the opening round of the 2012 California State Amateur Tournament. Contenders include Leo Cantu (4-0) of Kerman ranked No. 1, Richard Treas (3-0) of Modesto ranked No. 3 and Sandor Escobar (6-1) of Visalia ranked No. 5.

The first bout will begin at 6 p.m.

Tickets start at $35 and are available at upcunlimited.com. Doors for the fights will open at 5:30 p.m.
