Mariposa's John C. Fremont Hospital Foundation's 6th Annual 'Blazin Hog' BBQ Competition and Zydeco Music Festival will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at the Mariposa Fairgrounds. This is one of the major fundraiser events that the foundation presents each year.
"Our committee has been busy working on preparations for this year's Blazin Hog," said Rudy Mensinger, committee chairman. "The bands are booked and we're excited that Mark St. Mary and His Louisiana Band and The Bluesbox Bayou Band will be returning," Mensinger said. "Mariposa's own Good Medicine will also join the entertainment line-up."
The BBQ Competition is really popular, with festival attendees getting to sample the wares of the competitors. Over 20 teams competed last year competing for cash prizes of up to $500 in each of three categories. Want to be a BBQ competitor?
The Blazin Hog has terrific Zydeco bands, great BBQ, and takes place in a beautiful setting in the Sierra foothills, it's a fun event, for a great cause, that the whole family can enjoy. General admission tickets are $15 for adults - $10 if bought in advance, $10 for seniors, $5 for ages 5-17, and children under 5 are free with a paid adult.
"In addition to BBQ competitors, we're looking for event sponsors, craft and food vendors, and volunteers to work at the festival," said Mensinger. Details: Lorna Coci, (209) 966-3631, ext. 247, blazinhog.com.
