Yosemite High girls volleyball tryouts Aug. 13

Yosemite High School girls volleyball tryouts will begin at 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13.

Tryouts are open to all freshman through senior students.

All girls interested in attending tryouts must complete an athletic clearance packet and a sports physical prior to the first day of tryouts. Students not having the clearance papers will not be allowed to participate.

Clearance papers can be picked up in the YHS office during regular business hours.

Simpson wins trail run series final race in Fish Camp

Yosemite High School distance runner Alek Simpson, 16, won the July 21 Snow Play Loop 15K in Fish Camp in 47:15 minutes, close to a course record.

Second place was JK Lundberg, 32, in a time of 51:59.

First place in the women's division was Amanda Whitten in 1:07:49 with Amanda Murphy finishing second just one second behind Whitten.

Earlier races in the series were the Bass Lake Vista 14K on June 23 and the Shadow of the Giants 18K on July 7.

Special shirts were awarded to runners who participated in all three of the Summer Trail Run Series races this summer by Baz Hawley, race director.

"I have enjoyed the third year of the trail series and am looking forward to the 2013 series," Hawley said.
