More than 70 Mountain Area youth survived the 100 + degree weather July 9-12 during the Mountain Area Youth Soccer League Summer Camp at Coarsegold Elementary School .
There were 12 coaches and trainers present throughout the week who actively engaged players to work on soccer skills and coordinated numerous games and activities.
The highlight of the camp was a visit by three players from the Fresno Fuego Football Club -- forward Paul Islas, defender Eddie Gonalez and goalkeeper Beau Diaz.
"The players signed autographs and took pictures with our camp participants and also worked with the kids to show soccer skills and proper technique in dribbling, shooting and goalkeeping," said league secretary Simon Sultana. "The Fuego players answered numerous questions from camp participants on the experience of playing soccer at the professional level."
Because of the generous donation of monetary funds and effort on the part of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians tribal council, we were able to offer the camp at such a high value that over seventy of our local players between the ages of five and thirteen took advantage of this opportunity.
Players were split into three age groups and the camp provided focused attention to each child.
"The response to the camp was overwhelmingly positive from players and parents," Sultana said. "We feel that the camp was very successful by the countless smiles we saw on the faces of the kids and feedback from their parents. It is amazing that we were able to put all this together in such a short period of time and look forward to improving the experience for our youth next year."
Registrations for the fall soccer season are currently being accepted and all parents are encouraged to register their children. More information can be found on the league website, sierratel.com/soccer.
