In just six short days our nation will celebrate its 236th birthday. The sacrifice to bring forth our country is written in countless volumes with the blood of patriots and the grace of our merciful Creator. Homage has been written to Him and our nation and Americans know our patriotic song by heart. Do we?
America the Beautiful, Written by Katherine Lee Bates. There are four verses. Verse three:
O beautiful for heroes prov'd
In liberation strife,
Who more than self their country loved,
And mercy more than life.
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness,
And ev'ry gain divine.
Battle Hymn of the Republic, written by Julia Ward Howe. There are six verses. Verse six:
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave,
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave,
Our God is marching on.
Glory. Glory. Hallelujah. Glory. Glory. Hallelujah.
Glor. Glory. Hallelujah. Our God is marching on.
God Bless America, written by Irving Berlin.
While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer.
God Bless America
Land that I love
Stand beside her, and guide her
Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America
My home sweet home.
My Country 'Tis of Thee, written by Samuel Francis Smith. There are four verses. Verse four:
Our fathers' God, to Thee,
Author of Liberty,
To Thee we sing.
Long may our land be bright,
With freedom's holy light,
Protect us by Thy might,
Great God, our King.
And our National Anthem, the Star Spangled Banner, written by Francis Scott Key. There are four verses. Verse four:
O, thus be it ever when freemen shall stand,
Between their lov'd homes and the war's desolation,
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserv'd us as a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust"
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
The cornerstone of our nation is the belief in our Creator and the faith that He will provide and protect our freedom and liberty. Authors, such as those quoted above, and the blood of countless patriots are the brick and mortar which built upon that belief for the past 236 years.
I am confounded that our educational system, controlled by our own government, works so hard to eliminate our cornerstone. Are those who instruct our children to turn from our Creator anti-American, un-American or just ignorant of America's founding principles?
I pray "God bless America" and happy birthday to us all.
