The game changers

In My Option

"It isn't that liberals are ignorant, it's just that they know so much that isn't so." President Ronald Reagan.

I've pointed out that while Social Security is a socialist type program, Americans who work are required, by law, to participate. Here is a brief history of our Social Security Retirement Program:

At the time Franklin "New Deal" Roosevelt introduced social security it had its merits and was very appealing to many Americans. Wishing to avoid future poverty, people saw the benefit of a structured savings account "backed" by the US government. The program was completely voluntary.

The original program required voluntary participants to contribute 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual wages. Now, all workers must pay 7.65% on the first $90,000 of their annual wages. Originally, the money participants put into the program was tax deductible and payments made for social security were deposited only into the Social Security Retirement Program.

Until the 1980s social security cards expressly stated, "Not For Identification." I know this to be true because this old guy still has his original card. Question: What piece of identification is required for almost anything, secondary to a driver's license? Tell the requestor "that's none of your business" and you'll get "then I can't help you." Why is my SS number so important to non-government agencies?

Under President Lyndon "Quit Bombin' the Commies" Johnson the Social Security Retirement Trust funds were moved into the General Fund, hiding the pile of IOUs the government already spent. The original program allowed that "contributions" would never be taxed as income. Good ol' Wild Bill "truth challenged" Clinton and his trusty sidekick, the inventor of the Internet, Al "carbon footprint" Gore, the law was changed to allow up to 85% to be taxed.

Here's the clincher: Jimmy "the peanut" Carter changed the law again, allowing payments to "immigrants" ... and others. Don't ya just love what politicians do with a pen? Al "scarface" Capone should have gone into politics.

Can anyone see a common bond in the above rules changing, game changing mess? If you're thinking they're Democrats, you're wrong. They are what the politically correct call "Progressive Democrats." That, my friends, is a Socialist.

It is my understanding that President Eisenhower was the first to "borrow" from the fund. Over the years, in order to obscure the fact that our government was grossly overspending, they cooked the books until they realized they couldn't repay the IOUs in the trust fund without getting caught. Our current government is the major threat to American prosperity.

My question to the erudite "Progressive Democrats" is this: Which Social Security program do you like best? Our federal government's job is to secure our nation so that a free people may thrive from their own labors. When the government usurps our responsibility we are no longer in control of our destiny. Government is taking total control of "We the People."

During the past five or six decades our educational system has lacked any focus on American economic history. Why do I continue to rail against our educational system? A recent study by the California Association of Scholars titled "Crisis of Competence: The Corrupting Effect of Political Activism in the University of California," cites an advocacy of a leftist agenda and teaching about grievances of various minorities.

Could this be the reason our government works so hard to get our children into college? When Americans have an educated understanding of what it means to be an American it is easy to recognize the enemies of our state who strive to transform her.

So what would a truly American government do to correct this socialistic can of worms? It's simple -- Establish a government recognized, tax free individual savings instrument. When an American saves for his or her future, provide a tax deduction. It actually rewards people for taking responsibility for themselves. The more we become self-sufficient, the less we require of government.

No government can legislate the poor into prosperity. What one person receives without working, another person must work for. Government has nothing to give if it hasn't first taken from others.

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Winston Churchill.
