Camarena Health will open Oakhurst facility by July

-- Staff reportMarch 7, 2012

Camarena Health, the largest provider of primary care services in Madera County, has announced the opening of a new facility in Oakhurst.

"Camarena Health, a federally qualified health center, is happy to announce we will continue our efforts to meet the healthcare needs of Madera County residents Camarena by expanding our services with a new health care facility in Oakhurst," said Paulo Soares, CEO of Camarena Health.

Renovation of the new 3,860 square-foot facility, located next to the Sierra Star at 49165 Crane Valley Road (426), is currently underway and is expected to be complete by July 2012. The building was previously occupied by Custom Design & Fullmer's Repair.

Services provided by Camarena Health include family practice, pediatrics, laboratory, immunizations, diabetes education and asthma education.

"Our mission is to provide the highest quality health care to the communities we are privileged to serve, in a caring and compassionate manner," Soares said. "Our continued growth affords us the opportunity to meet the increasing, and ever-changing, healthcare needs of our communities."

Soares said Camarena Health will welcome all patients to its new Oakhurst location and they accept most private insurances, Medicare, Medi-Cal and uninsured.

"For those uninsured, we have a sliding fee schedule that allows patients to receive services for a fee ranging from $35 to $75," Soares said. "The fee is determined by the household income and family size. Staff is available to help the uninsured find a program they may qualify for and possibly services at no cost."

Camarena Health was established in 1978 and currently operates three facilities in Madera and one in Chowchilla.

Beginning with a modest practice of 1,500 medical patients, Camarena has built their patient base to nearly 25,000. Camarena Health's expanding patient base has spurred the growth of four state of the art facilities, with a fifth facility now coming to Oakhurst.

"We have been serving residents of Madera County for many years in our Madera facilities and we are very excited about the opportunity to bring these much needed services closer to their homes," said Soares.

Staffing of the Oakhurst office will include one physician, medical assistants and receptionist. A doctor for the office will be recruited over the next two months.
