A new Oakhurst Lions Club will hold its Charter Night Celebration at 5 p.m., Feb. 18, at Sierra Sky Ranch Resort.

With a start-up membership of more than 30 men and women, the "Oakhurst Mountain Lions Club" will be presented with their official charter from Lions District Governor Dave McCullough of Ceres. McCullough will present the charter to Wayanne Markley, club president.

Featured speaker for the evening will be Robert Smith from the Embarcadero Lions Club in Sacramento.

Members of the Los Banos Lions Club, who sponsored the formation of the Oakhurst Mountain Lions, as well as members of neighboring Lions Clubs will be on hand to congratulate members on the formation of the new club. The official charter date of the new club is Jan. 6.

The new club will meet at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month at Yosemite Gateway Inn Community Room.

"Club members will work on identifying needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs," said Markley.

This is the third Lions Club in the Mountain Area. The other two are the Bass Lake Lions Club and the Sierra Lions Club of Oakhurst.
