Soon Girl Scouts will be out selling the much anticipated cookies that only come once a year.
Girl Scouts of Central California South are offering eight delicious cookie varieties this year:
Thin Mint
Shortbread -- in 100th Anniversary package
Caramel deLites
Peanut Butter Patties
Peanut Butter Sandwich
Thanks-A-Lot -- in eco-friendly compact packaging
Lemonades
Shout Outs
Pre-orders are being taken starting Jan. 20 from Girl Scouts in Madera, Fresno, Kings, Tulare and Kern County. For just four weeks, beginning March 1, Girl Scouts will be out selling the popular cookies in their neighbors and from booths outside community businesses.
"We can't wait to kick off our 2012 Cookie Season, especially because this year we are celebrating our 100th year of Girl Scouting! Our goal is to sell one million boxes in the five Central Valley counties we serve -- Fresno, Kern, Kings, Tulare and Madera! The girls have set their cookie goals, and are excited to collectively reach one million," stated Girl Scouts of Central California South Chief Executive Officer, Cathy Ferguson.
The Girl Scout Cookie Program, for girls in grade K -- 12, has become a sophisticated leadership program where girls learn valuable life and business skills. The program calls for the entire Girl Scout troop to collaborate in goal-setting and then follow their plan so that they can earn funds for service projects, educational field trips and other leadership activities. In addition to learning business ethics, public speaking, and money and time management, the girls can earn personal rewards such as clothing and movie passes. Top sellers can earn adventure trips or even a flip camera.
Cookies not for you? You can still help your local Girl Scouts. Purchase a box of cookies and they will send them overseas to our military through their Operation Gratitude project -- last year they collected 7,000 boxes and this year's goal is 10,000. Girl Scouts celebrate 100 years of girls changing the world.
In 2012 Girl Scouts will mark 100 years of inspiring girls and young women with the ideals of courage, confidence and character. Our 100th anniversary year is the "Year of the Girl." One girl can make a difference but girls together can change the world!
