Drama Intervention -- a play about the potential problems with being in a play -- is gearing up for its debut 7 p.m. Feb. 2 and 3 at the Yosemite High School Theater.

From crazed relatives to alien invasion, Lars Thorson's Theater Arts 2 class is ready to deliver a performance like you've never seen before.

"I think people will enjoy how fast-paced it is," said YHS senior Moira Chase, playing Ms. Grisswold. "Since we don't have any props, you really have to throw yourself into the characters."

The cast said the play is different from others the department has put on because it's more like a showcase of different scenes stitched together.

The entire cast will also remain on stage throughout the play, adding a new element to the production, others said.

Senior Bronson Booth hailed Thorson for allowing the class' creativity to add new elements to "Drama Intervention."

Tickets for the play, led by Chase and sophomores Michael Neff and Zoe Powell, are $5.

"This is a challenging play because it is supposed to be funny, but it happens without any funny costumes or silly props or any tricks," Thorson said.

"The actors have their voices and their bodies. They have to work together and be creative. It presents interesting critical thinking and imagination challenges for them.

"While its title suggests an intervention, the play is really a homage to being a child, being in a play and all of the crazy, terrible, frightening things that can happen onstage. I am very proud of my students and their hard work. It will be a wonderful show."
