William 'Bill' H. Ross

William "Bill" H. Ross Jr. died Jan. 1, 2012, at the age of 78.

Mr. Ross was a resident of Oakhurst for 17 years.

He was born Nov. 1, 1933 in Panama City, Panama.

Mr. Ross worked as a teacher and coach for more than 30 years at Santa Ana High School in Orange County. During his time coaching, his varsity baseball team won the CIF Championship in 1982 at Dodger Stadium.

He volunteered with various Mountain Area organizations, including Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and serving as a board member of the Men's Group at River Creek Golf Club.

Mr. Ross enjoyed golfing, fishing, spending time on his boat on Bass Lake with his children and grandchildren, an occasional burger at The Forks Resort, and talking with friends at weekly get-togethers at El Cid's, the ROMEO Group, and many card/game nights.

He was preceded in death by wife of 46 years, Jackie Ross.

Mr. Ross is survived by children Skip Ross of Seattle, Wash., Mark Ross of Orange and Vicki Ross of San Francisco; sisters Nancy Ross of Oceanside and Margaret Murray of Huntington Beach; and five grandchildren.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 1 p.m. Jan. 28 at his residence in Oakhurst.


Stewart 'Stu' Harris

Stewart "Stu" Harris died Jan. 9, 2011, at the age of 92.

Mr. Harris was a resident of Ahwahnee for 21 years.

He was born in 1919 in Alhambra.

Mr. Harris enjoyed hiking, including the John Muir Trail and spending time outdoors.

He served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII.

Mr. Harris volunteered wearing the Cal Fire Smokey Bear costume teaching third graders fire safety, worked summers as a fire lookout, and educated people about the habits of rattlesnakes and how to handle them.

He is survived by wife of 72 years, Marian Harris; sons Steve Harris of Durango, Paul Harris of Reno and John Harris of San Pedro; daughter Margaret Roberts of Prescott; niece Jean Harris of Reno; and six grandchildren.

No services will be held.
