Janet Stanovich, Madera County Office of Emergency Service coordinator, will be installed as the 2012 Oakhurst Area Chamber of Commerce president Friday, Jan. 13 at the organization's Installation Dinner and Award Ceremony at the Golden Chain Theatre.

Stanovich has more than 15 years of emergency management and a knowledge of local government. She is responsible for all emergency related services in the county. She has a masters degree in public health with a focus on emergency preparedness from Walden University.

"I feel that I have a very strong and solid background," Stanovich said. "I'm an organizer and an event planner and understand the structure of organizations and feel this will be a great value to the chamber."

Stanovich joined the chamber as an individual in 2007.

"I'm a very community oriented person and with all my involvement in the community, this was just another asset to become involved," Stanovich said. "It's a whole different environment working with the business end of the community."

The chamber should be looked at as the heart of the business community, Stanovich said, and her goal is keep striving to maintain a solid membership by keeping members informed and engaged by participating in chamber sponsored events.

Stanovich also hopes to highlight Oakhurst's 100 year celebration at chamber events throughout the entire year.

"I am looking forward to the community, when doing functions, acknowledging the 100th year during their event," Stanovich said. "I look at this as a community event and the chamber will participate actively in acknowledging the 100th year. Not everyone is a member of the chamber, but everyone is a member of the community."

The official day of the 100th birthday of Oakhurst is Feb. 28.

In addition to Stanovich being inducted as president, new board members will be installed and the 2011 man, woman, business and volunteer of the year will be announced and guest speaker will be historian Bill Coate.

Other board members who will be sworn in by Madera County 5th District Supervisor Tom Wheeler include Greg Chappel, president elect, Angelo Pizelo, past president, Todd Miller, treasurer, Kenny Buller, Ted Roache, Sherry Colgate, Collette Goga, DeAnn Smith, David Nemeth, Rick Hlava, Randy Papike, Julie Ward, Mike Sullivan and Dan Rule.

Tickets for the prime rib dinner catered by Sierra Sky Ranch are $40 per person and reservations can be made by calling the chamber at (559) 683-7766.
