Raymond Joseph Olivera

Raymond Joseph Olivera died Dec. 28, 2010, at the age of 79.

He was born March 31, 1931, in Santa Maria.

Mr. Olivera was a 35-year resident of North Fork and was a union carpenter for 30 years.

Mr. Olivera was a United States Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years Fina Bashore of North Fork; son Michael Olivera of North Fork; daughter Jeanie Olivera of Modesto; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6 at Smith Manor Grace Chapel in Madera.

In lieu of flowers, make donations to Asera Care Hospice, 650 West Alluvial Ave., Fresno, CA 93650.


James S. Holcroft

James S. Holcroft died Dec. 27, 2010, at the age of 61.

He was a Coarsegold resident for 24 years.

He enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and golf.

Mr. Holcroft is survived by his wife Jeanne Holcroft of Coarsegold; daughters Elizabeth Holcroft and Carrie Holcroft, both of Fresno; his mother Betty Holcroft of Miramonte; sisters Nancy Holcroft and Janet Holcroft, both of Miramonte; and brother Ron Holcroft of Coarsegold.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 at Yosemite Lakes Community Church in Coarsegold.

Jerry Chappell

Jerry Chappell died Dec. 30, 2010 at the age of 77.

He was born Sept. 13, 1933 in Los Angeles.

He was a 15-year resident of Oakhurst.

He was a helicopter mechanic in a MASH Unit in the Korean War and was later worked in the Fresno County Probation Department as a Supervising Probation Officer for 29 years.

Mr. Chappell enjoyed creating customized bird houses, stained glass work, woodworking and helping others.

He served on the Madera County Grand Jury, was a member of Bass Lake Fire Auxiliary, Lions Club, was a board member of the Eastern Madera County SPCA, and president of Bass Lake Heights Mutual Water Company for the past seven years and was a registered organ donor.

Mr. Chappell is survived by his wife Linda Chappell of Oakhurst; daughters Michel of Fresno and Laurie of Las Vegas; grandson Ben of Fresno; and brother Earl of Maple Valley, Wash.

No services are planned. A memorial service will be held in the spring.

Doris "Daisy" R. Smith

Doris "Daisy" R. Smith died Dec. 8, 2010 at the age of 82.

She graduated from California State Los Angeles in English History.

She enjoyed making crafts for the Sierra Historic gift shop.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband Walter B. Smith; daughter Paula and husband Alan; son Christian and his fiancé Laarni; granddaughter Michelle and great-grandchildren Charles and Angelina.

A graveside service was held Dec. 16 at Oakhill Cemetery.
