The Bass Lake Lions Club, in conjunction with Bass Lake Realty, will host a tour of six Bass Lake homes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 during the 5th Annual Bass Lake Home Tour.

Several custom homes have been offered for touring by their owners. The Home Tour was proposed as a way for the Lions Club to continue funding its charitable activities.

The Lions Club will prepare and serve lunch for tour participants.

Proceeds from this year's tour will benefit the Yosemite High School music department.

The home of Ernie and Jan Wagner is the realization of their desire for a comfortable family retreat in a craftsman style with lots of light through 72 windows and as large a fireplace as possible. The sun porch is a favorite retreat, when not used as a sleeping porch.

The large deck is shaded by deep eaves and an old oak tree. Extensive stone creates a planting area in front to complement the craftsman styling.

Architect Michael Karby and builder Del Allsup, APEX Construction, brought quality workmanship to every detail meeting the needs and desires of the Wagners for the creation of their Bass Lake home.

The home of Dave and Gail Workman in Bass Lake Estates was team-designed by Architect Michaela Mahady, the owners and draftsman Tim Nelson. The Arts and Crafts movement of the early 1900s and the buildings of the national parks influenced the design process.

The home is on the site of the old Ducey's Lodge in Bass Lake Estates and is situated on the lot to allow for a circular driveway and off-street parking, which complements the tall trees of the surrounding forest.

Local builder Paul Contreras constructed the house in 18 months. In most cases, natural materials are used, inside and out. The concepts of "spatial layering" and "sheltering around activities" were employed to give a cozy feel to the house.

The use of solid woods, period hardware and art-glass lamps give an old-fashioned look. The woodwork throughout the house was crafted and installed by master finish carpenter Harry Stott.

The house was designed for summer entertaining. The kitchen, deck and lawn were laid out to serve up to 80 dinner guests.

Tickets for this adults-only tour cost $20 in advance and $25 the day of the tour and are available at the Bass Lake Realty office in The Pines Village or from any Lions Club member.
