Yosemite High School senior Evan Ewert is not shy when asked how the marching band is doing.

"This year's band might be the best in the history of the school," said the new band drum major. "We have new members and a new field show and we are pumped for this season of marching and performing for this wonderful school and community."

Ewert says he is very proud of the band for taking on more difficult music and a more advanced field show.

"Although the band is trying to get to the next level, I am not concerned because the members of this band are putting in the extra effort and they can handle it," Ewert said.

Randy Hyatt, Yosemite High music director and his assistant Pat Mierkey tend to agree with Ewert.

"We have observed a new level of maturity and commitment in the band this year," Hyatt said. "The students seem ready to move forward and take on new challenges this year.

We are excited about the leadership of the juniors and seniors in the band -- their experience certainly makes things run smoothly."

Hyatt says he is blessed to have students in the band who can lead and teach others. "We have band members who help others achieve their personal goals and that's pretty special."

Hyatt says Ewert brings leadership and excitement to the 42-piece band. "He is upbeat and knows how to motivate students," Hyatt said of his band "We have observed a new level of maturity and commitment in the band this year," Hyatt said. leader. "He is always a source of encouragement for me and the band. He leads by example."

"We are Family" is the motto of the band this year. "I know that is a catchy phrase from a great old song, however the theme is sincere," Hyatt said. "This band supports one another. We want to be a source of encouragement and reflect strong family values."
