Dear Editor,
On behalf of Timberline Gallery I would like to thank the mountain community for its outstanding response to the Aug. 14 reception for the Jane Gyer Retrospective.
More than 150 people dropped by to visit with Jack Gyer and enjoy the large exhibition of Janie's art work.
Much of the exhibited work is completely new to the public, as it was in private collections, or was still in Jane's studio at her untimely death in 2004.
Throughout the day the ebullient Jack Gyer, who will be 96 this coming December, greeted this parade of friends with hugs, laughter and tears.
Jack and Jane Gyer were exemplary patrons of the arts in the Mountain Area. They initiated the Vision Academy of the Arts, which annually distributes substantial scholarships to local students interested in pursuing college courses in the literary, visual or performing arts.
The Jane Gyer Retrospective coincides with the 25th anniversary for Timberline Gallery. Janie was a staunch supporter of Timberline from its inception. Over the years she and Jack devoted many volunteer hours to ensuring the smooth operation of Timberline.
It was an honor for Timberline to reciprocate for this quarter of a century of commitment by organizing the Retrospectiv, which was curated by Carolyn Hartling, who invited the Mariposa Arts Council to co-sponsor the show.
The show will be on exhibit through Sept. 5 and the public is invited to drop by and enjoy.
