River Creek Women's Club

The women's club played a "Front-back-overall" tournament on Aug. 17, where the lowest net score on the front nine, the back nine and then overall lowest net score determines the winners.

Pookie Mansker of El Portal won for the lowest overall net score of 66, Maggie Martin of Midpines took the lowest front nine score with a net 32.5, Angela Peters of Ahwahnee captured the lowest back nine net score with 35.5 and Phyllis Nell had some great shots, but missed being in the winners circle. She birdied holes 3 and 17 and chipped in on hole No. 4.

On Tuesday, Aug. 31, the River Creek Women's Club will be playing nine hole of golf at the Wawona Golf Course with lunch to follow in the Wawona Hotel. Tee time is set for 9:30 a.m.

River Creek Men's Club

The River Creek Men's Club held their annual President's Cup Tournament during the months of July and August. It was a match play event with two flights, A and B.

The B flight was a tight race and at the end of 18 holes, Ken Chancey and Joe Lawrence, the finalists, were tied. On the first playoff hole, a par five, both men pared the hole.

However, Chancey stroked on that hole and won the match and the B flight championship.

The A flight had another exciting conclusion. Jim Fairband and John Johns, neighbors at River Creek, were the finalists. Fairband took the last hole to win by one up.

Awards will be given to first and second place, in both flights, at the River Creek Men's Club Annual Banquet in November.

Sierra Meadows Women's Golf Club

A three-person team game was held Aug. 18.

The team of Liz Bowers, Sandi Hart and Kathy Phelps squeezed out a one-point win with a total of 136 for all 18 holes. Beth Gindorf won closest to the hole on the par three hole, No. 8, with a shot of 5 feet, 2 inches from the hole.
