Oakhurst Art Hop is held the second Saturday of every month
Artists came from Aptos, Mariposa and Clovis last Saturday to participate in the monthly Art Hop at Oakhurst's Williams Gallery West.
Clovis resident Amy Morgan, a ceramics teacher at Fresno City College, demonstrated her work, which ranges from painted and carved pottery to whimsical jars and vases. She received her art degree in 1995 from San Diego State University and has taught art at Poway High School in Southern California, San Diego State and Southwestern College prior to moving to the Central Valley.
A member of the San Joaquin Clay Association, she has exhibited regionally and nationally for the past 15 years.
Bob and Sandy Kinzie of Aptos work with a pottery wheel to create tea pots, vases, planting pots and sculpture pieces. Bob has been a professional potter since the '60s, and Sandy became interested in clay more than 10 years ago.
Their work is often a collaboration of Bob's wheel-generated textured slabs and Sandy's hand building of teapots and vases.
The couple have been published in books and international magazines and their work is in both in museums and private collections worldwide.
Mariposa resident Charlotte Hoffman was an art major in the mid '70s and fell in love with watercolors. A few years ago she began using pastels.
"It was a difficult transition from watercolor but once I understood their properties there was no turning back," Hoffman said. "I love painting sunsets and sunrises -- trying to capture that glowing, alive drama unfolding. Pastels are pure joy and fun."
The work of all the artists is available at Williams Gallery West, 40982 Highway 41.
Oakhurst Art Hop, a series of featured artists, demonstrations and hands-on workshops, is held the second Saturday of every month.
