Historian writes for Sierra Star

History writer Bill Coate is joining the Sierra Star team of columnists.

He has 37 years experience in the classroom. He is the founder of the educational program Madera Method and also Madera Method Wagon Train that annually teaches students what life was like 100 years ago during an actual wagon train experience.

He has been published in several educational and historical journals as well as newspapers across the United States.

Coate has won numerous awards including being named "National History Teacher of the Year" by the Daughters of the American Revolution and he was also a California Teacher of the Year finalist. He was one of 39 educators given the Disney American Teacher Award recognizing his creative teaching methods.

He hosts "Twist in Time" twice a week on Fresno's KMPH Fox 26, has published three books and has been featured in a national public service spot titled "The Power of Teaching" that aired on ABC, the Disney Channel and ESPN.
