As the 2009-2010 girls basketball season winds down, the Yosemite Lady Badgers are just getting started. Playing three games in one week due to rescheduling, the team collected three victories, averaging 95 points a game.
On Tuesday, the team traveled to Madera Ranchos to play the Liberty Hawks (4-15, 0-7 NSL) and returned home with a 90-48 victory.
On Wednesday, the two teams met again, this time in the Harry Baker Gym (game rescheduled from Jan. 22).
The Lady Badgers hit the century mark in scoring for the first time in school history, defeating the Lady Hawks 110-41.
Finally, on Friday, the team hosted the Washington Union Panthers and pulled up an 84-42 win.
Yosemite at Liberty, Feb. 9
The Lady Badgers scored 32 points in the first quarter, allowing just six by the Hawks and the issue was no longer in doubt as Yosemite collected 21, 3-point baskets in the 90-48 win.
Yosemite senior Sienna Gonzales led all scorers with 24 and enjoyed her first double-double of her varsity career collecting 10 rebounds. Senior point guard Jenay Herring also had a double-double with 12 points and 16 assists.
Junior Sydnee Fipps added 23 points for the victors including six 3-pointers.
Yosemite was one for one from the free throw line.
Liberty at Yosemite, Feb. 10
Playing a makeup game from January, the Liberty Hawks made the trip to Oakhurst and another game with the high flying Lady Badgers. Unfortunately for Liberty, Yosemite came to play.
The Lady Badgers scored 110 points enroute to the victory, the most for any team in school history.
The Lady Badgers were led by forward Fipps, the Central Section scoring leader, who scored 29 points with five 3-pointers and gathered in 13 rebounds for her 15th double double of the season.
Herring enjoyed her second double-double in two games scoring 20 points and 11 assists. Junior Rudd had 16 points, including four 3-pointers. Jesse Lowe had a double-double for Liberty scoring 22 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
Ashley Menser added 11 points for the Hawks.
Washington Union at Yosemite, Feb 12
Yosemite had five players score in double figures Friday evening in the Harry Baker Gym against a determined Washington Union team (10-12, 5-3 NSL). After allowing 29 first half points, the Yosemite Badgers pulled out the defensive stops after the intermission giving the Panthers only 13 points.
Fipps collected her 16th double-double of the season, the 36th of her career, leading all scorers with 23 points (she had 13 rebounds).
Gonzales and Herring added 14 points while Rudd and Taylor Jensen had 11 points each.
Lexi Blue scored 22 points for the Panthers.
The Lady Badgers are 25-2 on the season with an 8-0 record in the North Sequoia League with two games remaining.
The Badgers are ranked at number seven in Division II statewide by Cal Hi Sports.
The victory was the 188th for Yosemite coach Gary Blate as the Lady Badgers head coach.
