The Yosemite boys basketball team is still mired in a scoring drought. Last week the Badgers defense held the Kerman Lions to 47 points, usually good enough to win, but, at 32 points, could not muster up enough offense to pull out a victory.

On Friday, Yosemite traveled to Sierra High School to take on the Mountain Area rival Chieftains and were defeated 51-37.

Kerman 47, Yosemite 32

The Badgers stayed within five points at the half at 18-13, but Kerman (8-6, 3-3 NSL) jumped on a 19-4 run in the third period that put the Yosemite Badgers to bed, eventually winning by 15 points.

For the Badgers, Ben Siverly finished with nine points on three 3-point baskets and Harley Glines had a pair of treys to finish with eight points.

Kerman's Jesus Rico had a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while his teammate Jose Acosta had 11 points in the victory.

Sierra 51-37

Sierra (15-5, 5-1 NSL) took its "A-game" to the Badgers on Friday evening in the Sierra Fieldhouse, never allowing Yosemite within eight points.

The sting of the loss was all the more bitter when members of the Sierra student body paraded the Mountain Bowl football trophy that they won this past season, placing it on the scorekeeper's table for the game. Also, much to the chagrin of the Badger faithful, the Sierra fans' chants of "just like football" helped to set a hostile tone.

The game was more brawl than basketball at times with collisions. Holding and tripping accentuated the style of play by both teams.

Yosemite (6-13, 1-4 NSL) point guard Cody Essary finished with 11 points and six steals, while Dunn, scored seven points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Boys JV team lost 35-23 to Sierra in an earlier game on Friday.

All four Yosemite teams will be at home tomorrow against Washington Union High School. Game times are 3:30 p.m., girl's junior varsity; 5 p.m., boy's JV; 6:30 p.m., girl's varsity and 8 p.m., boy's varsity.
