Cause to be crabby

Published: February 11, 2010

Close to 350 crab lovers from throughout the Mountain Area gathered Saturday night at Oakhurst Community Center for the 23rd annual Rotary Crab Feed.

Sierra Seafood Specialties of Oakhurst provided 1,500 pounds of cracked and cleaned sweet Dungeness crab for the feed.

In addition, chef Bob Brosi prepared 20 gallons of pasta sauce for the 75 pounds of pasta, along with 100 loaves of French bread and 80 pounds of salad.

The event raised $15,000 for Rotary community-service projects and Yosemite High School scholarships. A portion of the proceeds came from tickets sold in a drawing for $15,000 in merchandise and services donated to the cause.

Twenty-five members of the Yosemite High School Interact and Key clubs served the meal.

Interact Club president Rachael Hernandez has served at the annual dinner since she was in seventh grade.

"It's a great way to get to know and be involved with the community," Hernandez said.

She said $600 in gratuities the club collected will be donated to Haiti relief.

Sponsors for the evening were Yosemite Bank, Sears of Oakhurst and Big O Tire Center.
