We're about to pass a "health care reform plan" a majority of the country does not want, written by a committee whose leader admits he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it, but then exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president that also hasn't read it, and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's already broke, living on credit.
As usual to get the votes needed to pass this bill deals had to be made, the fairness and a level playing field simply vanished.
Congress was told, "Don't worry about the details, we need to get this bill passed." What could possibly go wrong?
To begin with, the Devil is in the details. Imagine buying a house or a car without reading the contract. I am one of the first to admit, we have problems in our health care system but this isn't the answer.
I predict a backlash in the next few elections like none seen in recent history.
As the electorate strikes out at the scoundrels on the far left, the scoundrels on the far right will claim a sweeping mandate for their complete agenda, when what has actually happened is "We the People" have again chosen the lesser of two evils.
Our political process reminds me of a house on fire. As the flames come from the left we drag hoses in from the right to beat them back.
Does this mean we want water flowing through our living rooms for the next few years? I don't think so! We don't need radical Republicans or radical Democrats holding the party line on votes. We need reasonable representation, making reasonable decisions, on reasonably focused legislation.
It is time to make a la carte laws instead all-encompassing pork buffets used to buy enough votes to get passage of a bill, with the originally intended goals buried so deep it can't see the light of day, or watered down so completely it is pointless.
I guess my problem is that I expect some small amount of logic to be used as my hard-earned money is being spent by our government. I think the solution lies in the "independent movement."
When someone runs for office they will be elected or rejected not because of the successes or failure of a given party line they promised to hold at all costs, but instead on their personal history of actions or decisions.
When politicians make promises during campaigns they should be held accountable to carry through on them.
Where is the logic in creating a system where there are no consequences for poor decisions or reckless actions.
Voters seem to have a short memory when it comes to holding government accountable.
We stand wide-eyed and suck up all the promises about fulfilling all of our wants and desires.
It's a little like the kids sitting on Santa's lap before Christmas. Is it even possible to elect a politician that tells it like it is instead of how we want it to be?
