Dear Editor,
I would like to write a huge thank you to the Elks of Oakhurst. They were, as their mission statement says, "Charitable, showed brotherly love and shared because they cared."
I have a friend who is disabled and in a local program here in Oakhurst. With the state budget cuts he was not able to get funding for summer camp this year, which is $500 to attend.
Needless to say, he was very upset about this. His friends would be going, but his family couldn't afford the expenditure. A few of us pondered this dilemma and then I thought of the Elks possibly being able to offer a scholarship on his behalf. This was presented at a meeting on June 23.
They raised the money and then some so that he could have some spending money. This was truly a gesture of brotherly love, to a very deserving young man.
Thanks again to the Elks of Oakhurst. What a group!
Annette Brade, Oakhurst
