The Oakhurst Branch Public Library kicked off its 2009 Summer Reading Program last Wednesday to the delight of a packed house. Pat Mierkey, the keynote storyteller and musician, entertained the assembly comprised of 114 children and 43 adults. Mierkey is a retired teacher and volunteers his time.
The branch manager, Dale Rushing, bid all in attendance welcome to the library with hope that everyone would enjoy this summer's topic "Be Creative in Your Local Library."
"Our sponsors are terrific this summer," Rushing said. "I would like to thank them all for providing the prizes and coupons as rewards earned by reading each week.
"Each week, when a child turns in their 'reading log' they can earn a pizza bread coupon and a personalized pizza from one of the local pizzerias; this will continue until the coupons run out."
Rushing said there will also be books given away and door prizes.
There will be four big prizes awarded, including the grand prize, a $50 savings bond.
Reading logs can be downloaded on the library's Internet site: www.oakhurstfobl.com.
