A Coarsegold man, John Haen, 40, was struck by a big rig and killed Friday afternoon on Highway 99 and Franklin Road. Haen was driving a bus of teens from Sierra Pines Church home after a three-day missions trip to San Francisco, when the bus ran out of gas. While Haen was filling the bus’ tank, which was parked on the Highway’s shoulder, a passing big rig hit him, the bus and a CHP vehicle parked in front of the bus. Haen was thrown about 70 feet; 41 students were on board the bus, but no on else was injured in the accident. Haen was an active member of the Sierra Pines Church congregation and was a regular volunteer driver for the youth group. A memorial service will be held Saturday at the Mountain Christian Center at 11 a.m., 40299 Highway 49; (559) 683-7332.
