Guy Hosley, 73, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 19 at his home on Camano Island, WA after a battle with cancer.
Guy was born in Montague, MA to Guy B. and Louise Klotzle Hosley. Through the years he held residences in South Deerfield, MA, Oakhurst, and most recently Camano Island.
Guy served in the Army between 1957-1959 after which time he became co-owner and salesman at Hosley Brothers Chevrolet, Inc. until 1970. After this he held various occupations around the country culminating in Oakhurst where he was self-employed as The Chimney Sweep Guy. Also in Oakhurst, his various jobs included mining, pump work, septic installation, and plumbing. He retired in 2005 upon moving to Camano Island.
Guy was a woodsman who often camped in remote locations wherever he lived. He loved cutting and stockpiling firewood to keep the home fires burning or to enjoy an outdoor campfire. He was innovative and inventive and put his many skills to use in unique ways. He loved the water and assured that where he settled would afford him access to a creek, river or ocean for bathing, swimming or boating. From shrimping in Florida to fishing in the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Guy was a proud American who ventured to experience what his great country had to offer.
Guy Hosley was a wonderful man who touched many people’s hearts and lives. Everyone who knew Guy knew of his magnetic personality. He was open to everyone and had a strong ability to listen and a readiness to share. His trustworthiness was one of his many assets. He was enthusiastic about living life to the fullest, concentrating on the positive and encouraging others to do the same. He was a loving human being who made a significant contribution to mankind. He will be sorely missed.
Guy is survived by his wife Kathy, his daughter Terry Aschenbrenner and her husband Jeff, grandsons Dillon, Brock and Luke, all of Camano Island, WA, his sister-in-law Kris O’Donnell of Easthampton, MA; three nieces, four nephews, several grandnieces and grandnephews and his beloved dog Tug.
He is predeceased by his sister Miriam Hosley Clough, brother Gerald B. Hosley, niece Alyce Boyle and nephew Glenn Hosley.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 30, at 3 p.m. at St. Aidan Episcopal Church on Camano Island. Contributions may be made to the Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation, Cancer Care Fund, P.O. Box 1376, Mt. Vernon, WA. 98273 in memory of Guy Hosley. We express our extreme appreciation to the doctors and nurses who are providing outstanding care at the Skagit Valley Hospital Regional Cancer Care Center.
