Yosemite Gateway Association of Realtors is embarking on its eighth annual Monster Rummage Sale, so named because of the size of the event.
As local Realtors, we feel that giving back to our community is important. Our lifestyle and home-town feel is vital to all who live in the area. The total amount donated to local charities to date is more than $65,000.
What started out as a big yard sale to solely support local charities has turned into a community event. Over the years we've heard from residents how much they look forward to the rummage sale.
One year a woman with four small children said that she was able to outfit her kids for the winter with nice clothes. One of our elderly clients was able to purchase a stove that saved her several hundred dollars.
Community members donate their unneeded items. Locals purchase those donated items, and give them a good home. Our donors and participants feel a sense of pride by being able, in their own way, make a charitable contribution.
This year has proved difficult for many local families because of the rising cost of living. So, this year we will donate all net proceeds to Manna House. Many of you know, and some probably volunteer with, Manna House.
For those who are not familiar with the organization: It was established more than 20 years ago to assist those in need in the Mountain Area. The primary focus is the on distribution of food and clothing. In some cases other needs may be met if funds and materials are available.
The Manna House staff is composed of about 30 volunteers, many of whom have volunteered for a number of years. As their work has become known throughout the community, more business people and individuals have joined in supporting these efforts through donations of money, food, clothing or discounts for which they are most grateful.
This is a Monster event and whatever treasure you may be looking for might be found at our 11,000-plus square-foot location. This year we will be in the old True Value building, above the Vons gas station.
We will also be offering food, beverages, and a place to sit down to enjoy musical entertainment, so make a day of it. There truly is something for everyone to enjoy and buy. Additional information:
