We are very fortunate.
For the past five decades one of our Mountain Area communities has been the home to an old-fashioned rodeo, complete with bull riding, mutton bustin,' royalty coronations and homestyle barbecue.
The 56th annual Coarsegold Rodeo storms out of the gate today through Sunday, and we hope our residents and visitors stop by and bask in the tradition.
It's a special event for the mountains.
Local students learn a little bit of history during today's Heritage Day, which kicks off the event, while vendors and non-profit organizations showcase their goods and food for the rest of the weekend that is highlighted with in-your-face rodeo action.
Well, almost in-your-face rodeo action.
The Coarsegold Rodeo is an important part of the Mountain Area, and with our support the tradition will continue for another 56 years.
The issues above are discussed and chosen by the Sierra Star editorial board, made up of Betty E. Linn, publisher, and David Richards, editor.
