Easter is a special holiday worldwide, and that's certainly the case in the Mountain Area. In addition to the various Holy Week services scheduled this week, the Oakhurst Community Easter Egg Hunt has been a popular festivity in Oakhurst for nearly two decades.
The hunt was almost canceled for 2008 because of lack of support and lack of funding.
The Yosemite High School Interact Club has unselfishly put on this massive event for the past 17 years and was just not able to do it this year.
But local children need not to worry.
Local business owner Donna Davis of Have a Ball has volunteered to make the hunt happen.
It will be held in the Oakhurst Community Park Sunday at 1 p.m., complete with special eggs and hunting areas for two sets of age groups.
We commend Consuelo Mercier and the YHS Interact students for all of their hard work in past years, and we also commend Davis for stepping up to the plate when she didn't have to.
Our communities are filled with people like Mercier and Davis, who give their time and money unconditionally.
We should take their lead and do the same ourselves.
We wish all of our readers a very Happy Easter.
The issues are discussed and chosen by the Sierra Star editorial board, made up of Betty E. Linn, publisher, and David Richards, editor.
