Gas prices have reached the stage where they've begun to have a negative effect on almost every level of our economy.
At $4 a gallon and still rising, even the oil companies realize they've reached a limit that is forcing the government to curtail this unprecedented expression of greed. But cutting off this windfall of profits that has, to a great degree, been enabled and condoned by leaders, will be a difficult assignment. Trying to appease two opposing forces at the same time always is.
But wait--there are changes coming up with the coming election. Big changes are promised by all candidates. They are changes that just might quiet the public outcry.
So our elected officials seem to feel that a couple of more giant helpings at this public trough will satisfy the other side too. First, remove the taxes on the gas. That will lower the prices enough to satify the consumer -- and what's the difference? It's their money anyway and won't effect the profits. Then, since we've reached the point where lots of folks can't even afford the gas, send everybody a check and they can put that in there tanks too. What's the difference -- that's their money too!
So you can look at all this as a game (to some it is!) Then, we see the owners all fat and happy--the players turning over their positions to a new team of players and spectators.....well...they're still in their same places...wondering who's going to do what to them next.
Grandpa sez: It's like the world has seated itself at a giant dinner table. America calls out: "What are we having? 'You' comes the answer. We're having you."
