-- Easter services slated for Community Church. Dennis Morgan will sing a solo, "Hosanna!" by Jules Granier.
Dr. W.B. Uphold will preach on the last word from the Cross.
Duplicate service at 11 a.m., and in the interval, Easter breakfast will be served by the Women's Fellowship.
-- Building permits issued for construction in the Mountain Area surged ahead during March to a total of $111,875, including seven new commercial buildings. The valley recorded $45,209.
-- Classified ads show a three bedroom home, with a recreation room is available on eight acres for only $29,500.
The Mountain Area property is fenced and includes a barn and swimming pool, excluding water, near stores.
Thirty years ago
-- A career computer will be installed at YHS that will give students career information and job opportunities to be funded through CETA with a $50,000 allocation.
Madera County is the first county in the state to have the terminals in high schools. Students and non-students will be able to use the terminal at no cost.
-- Dorothy and Arthur McAllister will be honored as this year's Old Timers at the Coarsegold Community Center, and as grand marshals of the annual Coarsegold Rodeo.
-- The DFG and the Sierra National Forest have announced closing of Mammoth Pool annually from March 1 thru the Friday preceding the third Saturday in June.
This was established to protect the San Joaquin deer herd that swims across Mammoth Pool each spring to their summer range in the higher mountains.
Recreation activities causes deer to delay their crossing or cause harassment during same.
Twenty years ago
-- The Oakhurst Sierra Rotary Club is the outstanding club of District 522, highest honor that can be bestowed, and also wins six other awards.
Club President Brandy Brandenberger accepted the award and stated that it was due to a combined effort on the part of all members of the club that they won first in a district of 49 clubs.
The Yosemite Interact Club, which Rotary sponsors, received first place in community service and in international service.
As of Jan. 1, there were 23,225 Rotary clubs and an estimated 1,043,485 Rotarians in 161 countries and regions.
-- Elizabeth Bohna and Bud Gaster will be honored as the Old Timers for the Coarsegold Rodeo at the dinner and dance at Coarsegold.
Honored posthumously will be Henry Bohna.
