The Yosemite High School track and field team continued to gain momentum, going into the North Sequoia League championships with a victory over the other four member schools Wednesday, April 23 at Badgers Stadium.
Yosemite's varsity boys outpointed Madera South, its closest rival, 141-72. The Lady Badgers margin of victory was slim, 107-103, but a win nonetheless and the frosh/soph boys team out pointed the No. 2 team, Chowchilla 118-110.
Sophomores Detri Dunn and Matt Ruddock continue to improve, with Dunn finishing first (53:11.2) and Ruddock second (54:75.1) in the 400 meters and then one (Dunn) and three (Ruddock) in the 300 intermediate hurdles.
Dunn also finished first in the 110 high hurdles and the 200 meters. Freshman Theo Nicolulis took second in the 200 meters (23:44.0).
Taylor Allsup's leap of 40 feet, 9 inches in the triple jump was good for a first, as was Cody Logee's 6-foot jump in the high jump.
The Badgers' premier distance runner, Julianne Warmerdam, swept the 800, 1600 and 3200 meters races, and senior Valerie Gee was first in the shot put and second in the discus.
Next up: the NSL championships Friday at homes Stadium.
Reedley Invitational
At the Reedley Invitational track meet held Friday, Dunn finished third in the 300 IH and fourth in the110 HH and fifth in the high jump.
Warmerdam finished sixth in the 1600 meters and seventh in the 3200 meters.
