Yosemite High School Sober Grad Night coordinator Tammy Thacker needs your help.

"We've always been proud that we can give our seniors a free Sober Grad Night party," Thacker said. "But this year, we're about $5,000 short of what we need."

Graduation ceremonies begin June 11 at 7:30 p.m. at Badgers Stadium and the party starts at 8:30.

Sober Grad Night is a party where seniors and their dates can stay up all night, play games, gobble food, win prizes, reminisce and be safe, because they're inside Sierra Lanes. They have to check in soon after ceremonies at the high school. If they leave later, they can't get back in. And if they can't get back in, they're not eligible for prizes given throughout the all-night bash.

One of the attractions of the night is a drawing for the big prize, a car.

"We didn't get a car this year," Thacker said.

If you've got one and would like to donate it, she and the winner would be thrilled.

"But if people could give a big-ticket item like a computer or a trip instead of a car, that would be great," Thacker said.

She said she'll soon be calling Mountain Area businesses to ask for donations.

"We appreciate anything people can contribute," she said. "We're looking for anything college kids would like or could use -- for instance blankets, clocks, radios, microwaves, blenders or gift cards for things like Starbucks or Jamba Juice.

Call Thacker at YHS, (559) 683-4667, Ext. 319 for more information. Items can also be left at the school office.
